A recently released brief by Chapin Hall and Early Start promotes viewing the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) as a tool to provide new opportunities to reimagine how families are supported and strengthened through a meaningful partnership between child welfare and home visiting services. According to the brief, “Creating a shared vision and theory of change for using strengths-based home visiting services has the potential to transform how the U.S. supports and empowers families. New opportunities are emerging to build capacity in home visiting and child welfare to prevent child abuse and neglect from ever occurring and thus reduce the likelihood of foster care entry.” The brief further notes, “Over time there will be less need for capacity in child protective services. This shift could be monumental and planning strategically together now makes this possibility more achievable.” The brief includes a list of home visiting programs included in approved FFPSA plans.
